All In One Podcast - Bestie Year end award ceremony. Besties Chamath, David Sacks, David Friedberg, Jason Calacanis

The main themes across the various categories of the awards - there were several repeating themes.

On a business, silicon valley leadership level

  • Magnificant 7 is the biggest winner - each one of them made headlines in their own way and each of their leaders stood out creating a new future for the industries they are involved in

  • NVIDIA's dominance is AI chip shouldn't be a surprise at all, this is a result of Jensen Huang's long term vision and investment in this new technology market, doubling market cap this year

  • All Elon companies are making great progress - Starlink, X, Tesla, stunning year for Elon companies

  • Sam Bank Friedman and his trial featured couple of times. CZ's trial and changes came up only once - showing overall lack of interest from AIOP on the crypto tech

  • Having said that SOLNA's 10 times increase was heavily featured and a big turn around story

  • Uber's has doubled its market capitalisation by 100% in the year which was another noteworthy turn around story

  • Microsoft managing to stay pivoltal roles in multiple industries - AI datacenter enablement, Open API investments, Activation Blizzard buyout. Sterling job from Satya Nadella on all fronts, doubling market capitalisation just in 1 year

  • Huge turn around at Meta as well after not so successful investments by strong focus on operational efficiencies of the existing businesses - shows Mark Zuckerberg's tenacity

  • Ivan Igor's leadership was criticised along with slow growth in Disney's business and movie franchises

  • Taylor Swift's influence on US economy was mentioned here too

  • VC funding situation is still not clear though the group kept the view that the valuation are super high in valley business and a correction is inevitable

  • Open AI - how much attention it is receiving despite it being a private company!

On technology level

  • AI's collective technological innovation is mindboggling.

  • Gene editing capability for a specific Lukhemia

  • Open AI leadership saga is still intriguing and more to come as to why the non-profit board did what it did

  • Brain wave as a modality for the LLMs was one of the biggest innovations of the year

On macro, financial, banking level

  • US Fed scripting a 3 step cut next year came as a total surprise to the hawkish attitude Fed maintained so far, who says Fed is an independent body, this is all about US elections

  • There was no particular commentary if the current stock market highs are duly justified

  • US Treasury providing bridge loans to any bank which may need to cover the bond yield crisis on SVB, Silvergate etc was another form of quantitative easing. AIOP thought tjhat the lack of risk management practices were the most important lesson from this

  • No conversations on AI taking the jobs and impact on workforce

  • Huge widely shared concern on US's continually growing debt - despite the COVID coming to an end and the prevailing lax attitudes around

On a political, geo political level

  • Hamaz attack and the following human tragedy by itself hasn't received much of kind reflections from the group. The commentary was about the level of narrative change since the start of the war groups supporting Hamaz, particularly in Ivy league institutions

  • Anti abortion legislation is now being formalised including red states

  • Ban on Trump's candidature for US presidential elections by Colorado State court has only improved Trump's position

  • De Santis hasn't emerged as a clear alternative to Trump, which makes Trump's position even more stronger

  • US setting for a clear Joe Biden Vs Trump election which is worrying given how likely civil unrest in either of the outcomes

  • Zelinski has started losing his support across the board particularly EU leadership, it sounds like he has lost a window of opportunity to come out of the stalemate Urkaine is in with Russia

  • There was no conversations about Chinese economy or political leadership or Chip war

  • There was no conversations on US inflation bill or large scale movement of the manufacturing work

  • There was no conversations on the migration crisis in the UK and Europe and increasing right wing activism

  • LLM Opensource models which can run in low footprint mobile is one of the most engaging
